Sharon Hansen, long time resident of Aberdeen was called home to the Lord on Friday February 24, at Avera St Luke's hospital. Sharon was born in Summit, SD on August 9, 1939, the daughter of Albert and Orpha Lau. She was raised on a farm and graduated from Summit High School. Sharon attended Presentation College in Aberdeen and obtained a degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked at several local medical facilities, eventually retiring after a long career in nursing which included advanced training to become a certified mental health nurse.
Sharon was a member of several organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as organizations devoted to the welfare of animals. An avid animal lover, she raised and showed Arabian horses and several breeds of dogs. She was a SD cowgirl.
An accomplished reader and writer, she wrote a newspaper column for several years and published a book. She also liked to follow and have debates about politics.
Sharon loved Willie Nelson! At Willie's last trip to the Brown County Fair, she made her way to the first row. While singing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Willie tossed her the bandanna from his head. Her lifelong dream was now fulfilled.
Grateful for having shared Sharon’s life are her five children: Paul (Darla) of Minneapolis, MN, Greg (Bonnie), Redfield, SD, Melanie, Grand Forks, ND, Mark (Christina), St. Cloud, MN, and Mary (Joe) Thyne, Hillsboro, WI; grandchildren: Vanessa, Derek (Tiffany), Megan (Cody), Alec, Thomas, Kaitlyn, Isaiah, Jonah, Josiah, and Isaac, and four great-grandchildren; and brother, Jack (Diane) Lau, Summit, SD; all of whom Sharon influenced and loved.
Preceding Sharon in death are her parents, Albert and Orpha Lau, grandson, Eric Hepper and sister, Adele Lenz.
