Deacon Sidney Howard, 64, died Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 11:08 a.m. in the York Hospital. He was the husband of Yvonne E. Howard. Born in Lakeland, Fla. on October 7, 1939, he was a son of Leola Randolph Howard and the late James Howard. He had worked at Teledyne McKay for 25 years and was currently employed by York Hospital in the Imaging Department. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, member of the Adult Sunday School Class and Joint Board. He also attended Prayer and Bible Study. He was also a part of the United Brothers in Christ Prison Ministry. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Shareef Hameed (Eric Howard) of York; three stepsons, Samuel Wright of North Carolina, Floyd Wright of Pennsylvania and Samuel Wilson of Rhode Island; one stepdaughter, Matilda Smith of Pennsylvania; a host of grandchildren; nine brothers, Raymond Howard of Baltimore, Md., Robert Lindsey of Arizona, Herbert Howard of Dallas, Texas, David Lindsey of Los Angeles, Calif., Frederick Lindsey of New Orleans, La., Sylvester Lindsey of Tampa, Fla., Horace Howard of Portland, Ore., Timothy Lindsey of Florida and Edward Lindsey of York; and four sisters, Louise Gatlin of Florida, Elizabeth Vinson, Evelyn Newman Sowers, and Sylvia Grovell, all of York. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Veronica Dibiase and a brother, James Howard, Jr. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Friendship Baptist Church, 651 East King St., York with the Rev. Ronald Taliferro officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Boulding Mortuary, Inc., Boundary and Cleveland Avenues, York is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church, 651 E. King St., York, PA 17403.
