DACULA, GA-- Dennis Haskell Thornton, 75, of 1727 Bakers Mill Road, formerly of Gaffney, went home to be with the Lord on October 2, 2007 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Bryant Haskell Thornton and Donnie Duncan Thornton and widower of the late Ruby Ailene Evans Thornton. Mr. Thornton was retired from the United States Navy and the National Guard. He was employed as a photographer and was a member of Shadow Brook Baptist Church in Suwanee, Georgia, where he formerly served as a Deacon.
He is survived by a son, Tripp H. Thornton and wife, Ruthie, of Dacula, Georgia; a daughter, Doris I. Thornton of Dacula, two sisters, Madeline Badovinic and husband, George, of Waldorf, Maryland, Elaine Ransdell of Faquay-Varina, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Thornton and Parks Haskell Thornton; and a sister-in-law, Betty Evans of Gaffney. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by grandparents, W. T. and Mimi Duncan.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Blakely Funeral Home, Gaffney, SC. Funeral services will be held in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, immediately following the visitation, and will be conducted by Rev. Steve Buchanan and Mr. Ashby Blakely.
Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens, Gaffney, SC.
The family will be at their respective homes.
