Funeral services for James “Jim” Ray Lawler, 72, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Southern Oaks Church of Christ with Pastor Ron Blankinship officiating and Jack Jerman and Jim Stewart assisting.
James Ray Lawler, known as Jim, was born on August 13, 1944 in Athens, Texas, the son of J. Olin Lawler and Lillie Celesta (Richards) Lawler. He passed away February 23, 2017 at his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma surrounded by his loved ones.
Jim grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and graduated from Grand Prairie High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He was president of the Acapella Choir and sang lead in the musical Oklahoma. He also sang in Youth Quartet with his sister at church when they were teenagers.
On January 2, 1993, Jim married Jean Furra in Norman, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 24 years together.
Jim was a truck driver most of his life. He was the guy with the bright red “57” Chevy. He loved going coyote hunting with his son, Mark. Jim attended Southern Oaks Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Fredna Turner; son, Eric Null; nephew, Wes Turner; and many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Jean “BJ”, of the home; daughter, Jamie Sampson and husband, Barry, of Bells, Texas; son, Gerald Lawler and wife, Laurie, of Denison, Texas; son, Mark Null and wife, Debbie, of Chickasha; son, J.T. Lawler and wife, Spatz, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Scherrie Santos and husband, Leonard, of Ninnekah; daughter, Amy Howell and husband, Robert, of Chickasha: sister, Joann Pommerening and husband, Jerry, of Navarro Mills, Texas; eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his two most loved dogs, Prissy and Rusty; his Aunt Edna, Aunt Jackie, and Uncle Earl; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
Viewing for Jim will be on Saturday, February 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
