Ruth Jeraldine Abplanalp Hoyer, age 93, of Batesville, died Monday, February 20, 2017. She was born April 13, 1923 in Adams in Decatur County, the daughter of Clarence and Sophie Fruchtnicht Abplanalp.
Ruth married Howard Hoyer on June 14, 1947. He preceded her in death. She graduated from Napoleon High School in 1941 and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Crossroads. Ruth was a homemaker and loved her life on the family farm. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth loved socializing and was a 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Hobby Nobby club. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Ruth is survived by one son, William L. Hoyer of Wichita, KS; four daughters and husbands: Pat and Ron Green of Batesville, Carolyn and Jim Carpenter of Syracuse, IN, Nancy and Robert Wren of Round Rock, TX and Mary and Mick Mehlon of Oldenburg, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren with one on the way.
She's also survived by two brothers, Alfred Abplanalp and George Abplanalp and two sisters, Betty Griswold and Susan Hankins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leah May Johnson and Mary Hoover.
Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10am until time of services at 1pm at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Crossroads with Rev. Dennis Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Hansen Center or St. Paul's Lutheran Church Crossroads.
