According to both Robert's World War I and World War II Draft Registrations, he was born July 9, 1892. This date also agrees with his marriage record and the census records. His obituary which I have transcribed below, showed his age at death as 64 and his date of birth as July 9, 1881. Robert would have actually been 63-years-old when he passed away. ROBERT CUNNINGHAM.
HEDRICK. – Robert Cunningham, 64 [sic], of Carbon Cliff, Ill., formerly of Hedrick, died at 9 p.m. Thursday in the Moline Lutheran hospital. He had been in failing health for a year.
The son of Robert and Anna Cunningham, he was born July 9, 1881 [sic], at Hedrick. He was married December 31, 1914, to Nellie M. Eller, who survives. He had farmed in the Hedrick and Fairfield communities until 10 years ago, when he moved to Carbon Cliff. He was employed by the International Harvester Co. of Moline.
Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Ezra L. of Milton, Dallas C. of Ottumwa route 7, and Marvin A. Cunningham, with the navy at Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. James R. Bates of Carbon Cliff; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. D.L. Bottorff of Ottumwa, and three brothers, W.J. Cunningham of Houston, Tex., J.W. of Miami, Fla., and R.C. of California. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Community funeral home in Ottumwa, in charge of the Rev. Harold Day, pastor of the North Court Baptist church. Burial will be in McCormick cemetery near Highland Center. Pallbearers will be Noel Baker, John Clauses, Norton Davis, Melvin Whittington, Mont Countryman and Aaron Dematteis.
