Grammy was born at Hill of Feddes the daughter of George Giles and Annie Rollo Adamson Ritchie. On the 23rd of February, 1911 she boarded the SS Hesperian in Liverpool, England & headed to Nova Scotia. At 10:50 the morning of March 4, 1911 they sailed in to Halifax harbour. She was processed though Pier 21 along with 898 other souls aboard the Hesperian. She was 19 years old, had $7.00 in her pocket book, and didn't know a soul or where she was going to end up. Fortunately, Old Lee Curry of Hortonville was looking for farm hands at the pier and he hired Grammy as a "Domestic" for his home. She came to the Curry Farm in Hortonville and never saw Scotland again. Here she met Fred Allen who had come over from England the winter of 1911 - on November 8, 1911 they were married. Together they had 11 children - 1st generation Canadians.
