Eddie Earl (Ed) Roberts, born February 3, 1936, passed away at home in Tallahassee surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 23, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ernestine McLeod Roberts, two daughters Desiree Roberts Anders (Danny) and Dawn Roberts Goa (Bill), grandchildren Joshua Roberts Anders and Ashley Anderson Hohertz, stepson Kelly Burke (Nancy) and step-grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Burke, brother Richard Randolph Roberts, sisters Elizabeth Roberts Smith, Callie Roberts Colvin Quigg, June Roberts Seymour, and many nephews and nieces.

Born in Sanborn, Wakulla County and raised in Sopchoppy, the son of John and Delma (Raker) Roberts, he was one of ten children and a life-long resident of Florida.

After graduating from Sopchoppy High School in 1954, he began his career as a surveyor for the state of Florida and went on to a distinguished career with the Tallahassee Fire Department, retiring as District Chief after 33½ years of service. He was also a successful contractor. Roberts Construction built many houses in Wakulla, Leon and Jefferson Counties.

An avid runner, hiker, basketball player, and sports fan, he enjoyed all things “Gator.”

He is predeceased by both parents, brothers M.L., Delbert (Bud), Johnnie Donald (Bill), and sisters Laveda Roberts Hodge Raker and Shirley.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Sopchoppy Southern Baptist with funeral services following at 12:00 noon. A graveside service will be held afterward at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.
