Alice passed away peacefully after a very short illness on Sunday, February 12, 2017, with her family at her side. She was 86 years old. She was born to George and Flora Yonker in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on September 21, 1930.

Alice loved God, her church, family, friends, crossword puzzles, car rides, bingo, and car races.

Alice graduated from Henderson State University in Huntington, Indiana, with her teacher’s degree. Alice, her husband, Jim Cannon, and children moved to Roseburg, Oregon, in 1968, where she taught at Eastwood Elementary School and then taught at the Nazarene School of Roseburg, which is now known as Umpqua Valley Christian School. She enriched her student’s lives by pushing them to do their best and let them know she believed in them and their future.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Burt Yonker; and sister, Ruth Porter.

She is survived by her daughters, Judi Abernathy of Sutherlin, and Sandy Zelenka and husband Jim of Eugene; sons, Duane Cannon, and Irving Cannon and wife Dawn, both of Roseburg; she has 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Yonker; and sister, Jean Posthuma, both of Michigan; two special family friends, Terri Klein and Dean Tucker of Roseburg.

Memorial services will be held at Hucrest Community Church of God on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Private interment for family will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens.
