STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime Dongan Hills resident Helen L. Guerrera, 90, a retired hospital records clerk and matriarch who loved to spend time with her family of three generations, died Friday in New Vanderbilt Rehabilitation and Health Center, Clifton, where she had resided for two years.
Born Helen L. Rush in Bayonne, she graduated from Bayonne High School.
After she and Frank J. Guerrera Sr. wed in 1947, they moved to Rosebank. They settled in Dongan Hills in 1955.
Mrs. Guerrera worked as a records clerk for 20 years at the former U.S. Public Health Hospital, and continued when it became Bayley Seton Hospital, Clifton. She retired in 1990.
She was a member of the AARP.
Mrs. Guerrera enjoyed being a homebody and loved being with her family. She will be remembered as hardworking and caring, family said.
She was fond of working newspaper puzzles, watching TV game shows and sewing.
Mrs. Guerrera was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
Frank, her husband of 67 years, died in 2014. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Keohane, in 2004.
Surviving are her sons, Frank J. Jr., Mark and Joseph; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Martin Hughes Funeral Home, Concord, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
