He was the grandson of William Henry Mason and Lettie Vincent Mason, who were early settlers of Tallapoosa, and Moses Bentley and Mary Ann Lorance Bentley, who moved to Tallapoosa from Troup County, Georgia.
His brothers were Early Moses Mason and Herbert Marion Mason.
