Ernst Franke dies on 88th birthday anniversary.
Mr. Ernst Franke, New Hamburgs oldest native-born resident, passed away at the Kitchner-Waterloo Hospital last Thursday afternoon April 8th at the age of 88 years.
He fell at his home a week prior to his death and suffered a hip fracture. Complications set in which hasten his demise. Mr. Franke was born in New Hamburg to Gottlieb and Julia Franke. Ernest was married to Ellen Page on June 26, 1883 in Garfield Twp., Grand Traverse County, Michigan at the home of his cousin Gottfried Franke of Traverse City, Michigan. He carried on a meat business for many years.
Surviving are one son William F Franke of Guelph and a grandson; also one sister Mrs. John Stahl of Chicago and two brothers Gottlieb and Theodore of Kitchener. One son Ernie died in 1904. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of New Hamburg.
Interment is in Riverside Cemetery.
