Virgil A. Stearns, 67, of Rising City, Nebraska, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska.

There will be a visitation on Friday, February 24, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be on Monday, February 27, 11:00 A.M., in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska.

Virgil Stearns was born January 20, 1950, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Elexis and Ethel (Shafer) Stearns. He attended schools in Alliance and Lincoln. On June 1, 1970, Virgil entered the U.S. Navy. He served during Vietnam and was honorably discharged on February 19, 1972. He returned to David City and on April 19, 1974, he was united in marriage to Donna Buller. To this marriage, two children were born, Mike and Leanne. They moved to Rising City where Virgil was a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed going to the dirt track races and driving motorcycles.
