Maxine Tinker, 88, of McAlester, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, in Glenpool. Maxine Tinker was born on Sept. 9, 1928, in Scipio, to Fred and Dewey (Johnson) Stephens. She was raised in Scipio and graduated from Indianola High School. She came to McAlester at the age of 18 and began working at a local drug store in downtown McAlester. On Feb. 17, 1947, she married Hollis Tinker in Fort Smith, Arkansas and after marriage they made their home in McAlester. She worked for a time outside the home after the family was raised, and later some 20 years for J.C. Penney, retiring in 1986. She was a charter member of Central Christian Church. She was member of BPWA, she served as an election board precinct worker, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and McAlester Regional Hospital Gift Shop as a volunteer. Maxine is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Nedra Tinker, of Kiefer, Steve and Mary Tinker, of Jenks, and Mike and Darla Tinker, of Jenks; grandchildren, Shawn Tinker, of Crowder, Nicole Parks and Daniel, of Jenks, Shari Tidwell and Michael, of Tulsa, Steven Shannon, of Tulsa, Gina Howard and Scott, of Shawnee, Karmen Brown and Corey, of Wagoner, Holly Peevyhouse and Clay, of Jenks, and Chance Tinker and Amelia Beach, of Owasso, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Hollis, on Sept. 17, 2015. Viewing will be today, Feb. 24, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Brumley-Mills Chapel with J.P. Hackler officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Tinker, Chance Tinker, Clay Peevyhouse, Corey Brown, Scott Howard and Daniel Parks. Memorial gifts may be made to Central Christian Church in remembrance of Mrs. Tinker.
