BUCHANAN - Laura Ruth Harper, 59, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on February 11, 2017, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Laura was born in Detroit, Michigan, on May 29, 1957, to the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Suckley) Todman. She was preceded in death by her sister, Karen.

Laura is survived by her life partner, Michael Johns of Buchanan, Michigan; daughter, Karyn Harper (Troy Myrick) of Elkhart, Indiana; son, Christopher Harper of Buchanan, Michigan; father of her children, Ronald Harper of Mishawaka, Indiana; and brother, Steven Todman of Granger, Indiana. She also leaves behind a niece, Hannah, and nephews, Kyle and Nathan Todman.

Laura was a devoted mother and loved her children deeply, spending as much time as possible with them. She was looking forward with great expectation to her daughter Karyn giving birth to her first child.

Laura actively helped the Patriots Motorcycle Club. She served many years as the donation coordinator for Camp Civitan's yearly benefit and other charities. She was very good at collecting product donations from local businesses to be auctioned at the annual benefits, contributing to the success of Camp Civitan. Laura and Mike also spent much time actively organizing Patriot Club events. Laura loved her Harley-Davidson, customized for her by her husband Mike. Together they traveled throughout the United States sightseeing, vacationing and attending Harley-Davidson events.

Laura enjoyed listening to Mike play the drums with his band, Work In Progress, at local nightclubs and charity events. She liked antiquing, knitting, sewing and quilting. She made many special items which were donated to charity events.

A celebration of life will be held at The American Legion Post 51, 403 E. Front St., Buchanan, MI 49107, at 2:00 pm February 26, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Camp Civitan, 5550 E. Galien Buchanan Rd., Buchanan, MI 49107.
