Wanda Louise Hawkins, 76, of Derby, Kansas passed away on February 20, 2017. She was born on August 1, 1940 into a large family with six brothers and six sisters.
She was a graduate of Atkins High School, her favorite subjects included Glee Club, Shorthand and Typing and her favorite hobby was listening to music. She met the love of her life, an aspiring engineer and pilot, on a blind date. They had three boys. To a soundtrack filled with music, she and her family boarded a small plane and soared through life's wonderful adventures. She was active in her church and was strong in her faith and beliefs. She sang in her church choir, in her home and wherever her life would take her. She encouraged her boys to learn stringed instruments; she took each of them to lessons and attended countless recitals and concerts. She loved clothes and shoes, she worked for a dress shop in her youth, and would later return to work selling dresses at Dillard's. She loved gardening, had a house full of plants and sold African violets from her home. She was a wonderful cook, and was known for her pies (and her scrambled eggs). She loved inside jokes, and her quick wit, and consistent use of nicknames and funny phrases caused a lifetime of laughter.
Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, J. Darwin Hawkins, her parents George and Nola Judkins, her siblings Boyce Judkins, Cliff Judkins, Ruby Royer, Ruth Streeter and her grandson, Garrett Hawkins.
She is survived by her sons Jay (Doreen), James and Jerry (Tambra) and her grandchildren Ethan, Blake, Grant and Chloe Hawkins; step-grandchildren Chris Nolde, Kaydee Robinson and Brecken Rumsey; great-grandchildren, Michael and Quinn; and her siblings Hartsell Judkins (Mesa, AZ), Charles Judkins (Davison, MI), Margie Bailey (Flint, MI), Evelyn Dixon (Russellvile, AR), Mary Anna Standridge (Dardanelle, AR), Bobby Judkins (Atkins, AR), Elloyween Luningham (Russellville, AR) and David Judkins (White Hall, AR).
