Enlisted 16 Nov 1863 in Boston, MA and mustered in 14 Jan 1864; Commissioned 1st Lt from Sgt Maj 1 Apr 1864; commissioned Capt 8 Aug 1864 but never mustered; killed in action at Crater/Petersburg Mine, VA as 1st Lt. of Co H; prior service 22nd NY Inf, Co E. (MA Army & Navy)

History of 58th Regiment by Cushman: "He was a young man being only 19 years of age. On the battlefield he was brave to a fault and in camp kind and unassuming. His remains now repose quietly beneath the soil of the Old Dominion. No marble monument marks his last resting place."

Initially enlisted at age 18 on 7 May 1861 at Glen Falls, NY; mustered in PVT Co E to serve 2 years; wounded in action; musterred out with company 19 Jun 1863 at Albany, NY. (NYS Adj Gen Rpt, Muster Card)
