John E. Shearer Jr.

York, John E. Shearer Jr., 81, passed away suddenly at York Hospital on February 19, 2017. He was the loving husband of Shirley M. (Zellers) Shearer, who passed away in 2013.
John was born in West Manchester Township on April 25, 1935 and was the son of the late John E. Sr. and Gertrude "Gertie" R. (Stough) Shearer.
He was a farmer his entire life, at his peak, farming over 7,000 acres in York and surrounding counties. He was also a member of St. Paul Zeiglers Lutheran Church in Seven Valleys. John will be remembered as a loving father, exceptional grandfather, and a good friend to many.
He is survived by his sons, John E. III and wife, Dajalyn, Keith Shearer and Thomas Shearer, all of York; his grandchildren, Justin, Jaimee, Tarrah, Danielle, Brittney and Eric; and his great-grandsons, Peter and Jude.
He is also survived by his brother, Marlin Shearer of Spring Grove; his sisters, Geraldine Bahn of York New Salem, Loretta Zeigler of Seven Valleys and Nancy Riley of Thomasville; and many nieces and nephews..
He was predeceased by his brother, Leroy Shearer; and his sister, Virginia Vasko.
A funeral in celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 11 am at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Mark Billow officiating.
He will be laid to rest following the service at St. Paul Wolfs Cemetery in York. A viewing will be held Friday from 9 to 11 am at the funeral home.
