Carlos M. Carreiro, 57, of Fall River, husband of Rebecca S. (Bonham) Carreiro, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in St Michael, Azores, son of the late Marcelino and Martina (Resendes) Carreiro, he lived in Fall River most of his life.

Mr. Carreiro was Deputy Superintendent of the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office. Also as Director of Immigration Services for the Sheriff’s Office he assisted many families over the years in dealing with immigration matters. Always doing for others, he was active in local area politics and especially enjoyed helping to develop better cultural and political relations with Portugal and the Azores.

Besides his wife, survivors include: son Franklin C. Carreiro & his wife Rita of Fall River; stepchildren Chardy Sturgill of Fall River and Matthew Sturgill & his wife Liz of Delaware, OH; siblings Luis & Viriato Carreiro both of Fall River and Isaura Bonanca of Fall River; grandchildren Briana & Emily Carreiro, Ryan & Kevin Caranci, Cory Barney, Dustin Manley and Gage Sturgill; several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Cristina Carreiro.

His funeral was held at St Anthony of Padua Church in Fall River. Pallbearers were Steve Bonanca, John Garcia, Luie Bonanca, Mark Marcelino, John Ponte, Tony Perreira, Matthew Sturgill and Ryan Caranci. Honorary Bearers were Matt Wert and Cory Barney. Committal Service was held at Notre Dame Cemetery Fall River MA.
