Susanne R. Smith, 52, of Shapleigh Maine, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully mid-day February 19, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, Maine, with her loving family and close friends Vickie Patterson and John Dixon at her side. Susanne had endured a courageous six-year battle with cancer.

Susanne was born August 15, 1964 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada to Robert and Marie McCammon. Susanne lived in many locations over the years as her father's employment allowed the family to relocate frequently and enjoy meeting new friends and adopted family. At a young age, Susanne moved to the United States and attended school in Port Huron, Michigan. After several moves through multiple states and provinces, Susanne landed in Cape Elizabeth where she attended Cape Elizabeth High School. She has remained in contact with many wonderful friends from this time in her life, including her longtime friend, Belinda Erskine.
Following high school, Susanne attended college in Port Huron, Michigan for a time to pursue her love for the arts. She changed her direction of focus to cosmetology and graduated cosmetology school in New Jersey. Her training through Sandler Sales Institute provided her with many skills to advance her career path. She enjoyed networking; eventually serving as the President of Business Networking International for a year. As Susanne progressed through her career path she spent some years working in management, operations management, eventually falling into specialization and sense of purpose in medical coding and billing.

Susanne enjoyed calming hobbies; of which included spending time with her grandchildren, Dustin and Cheyann as well as her only nephew, Christopher. She was a talented artist and in her early 20's could be found at outdoor art shows at Fort Williams sharing her creations. Later, her artwork was personal; each piece created for a specific person. Gift giving was especially enjoyable. Her gifts to each loved one was personal and she invested much thought and love into each gift. Susanne loved jewelry and gemstone collecting with her husband. She enjoyed animals and had several dogs and cats to spend time with over the years. She could often be found poolside in her back yard enjoying three out of four Maine seasons. Cooking for nightly meals and hosting parties brought her much enjoyment. Holding holiday parties and celebrating accomplishments of her friends and family added to her enjoyment and fulfilment.

In 2007, Susanne met the love of her life, Lowell F. Smith. It was love at first sight. September 6, 2008, they tied-the-knot in a beautiful, intimate wedding held at her brother and sister-in-law's home in Scarborough, Maine. While Susanne battled with cancer, Lowell remained at her side and cared for her through the years.

Susanne was a ray of sunshine in the lives of those she associated with. Her collection of loved ones appreciated her positivity and wild sense of humor. They are all finding much comfort knowing her passing was peaceful and pain-free.

Susanne is survived by her husband, Lowell Smith, her mother, Marie McCammon, her father, Robert McCammon, her brother, Joe McCammon, her daughter, Ashleigh Dixon, her grandchildren and extended loving family.

Vising hours will be from 11:00 am – 1:00pm, Thursday, February 23, 2017 followed by a 1:00 p.m. service at Dennett Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco, Maine. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine.
