Ina Mackey Heikkila Johnson, 93 of Floodwood passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth. She was born July 5, 1923 in Chisholm to John and Aina Mackey. She attended Silica grade school and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1941. From 1942 until 1947, Ina worked in Washington D.C. doing secretarial work at the Pentagon. Ina married Edwin Heikkila in September of 1947 in Hibbing and together had four children. Edwin died in 1972. In September of 1973 she married John M. Johnson. Ina worked at Wenstrom Hardware and Variety Store in Floodwood from 1973 until 1993.
Ina was a member of Cedar Valley National Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She enjoyed knitting homemade Finnish Slippers and flower gardening.
In addition to both of her husbands, Ina was preceded in death by one son, Edward Heikkila; brothers, John, Roy and Ray Mackey; sisters, Ingrid Hocking and Anna Wenstrom; and grandson, Jesse Peterson.
She is survived by one son, David (Lea) Heikkila of Hinnerjoki, Finland; two daughters, Mary Peterson of Carlton and Susan Vincent of Duluth; daughter-in-law, Barb Heikkila of Caribou Lake; six grandchildren, Shayne Vincent, Mia Heikkila, Jasie Peterson, Seth, Luke, and Courtney Heikkila; and four great grandchildren, Preston, Paris, Pierce and Piper Peterson.
