Glyn Curtis Babb Sr.
March 26, 1926 - February 18, 2017
Glyn C. Babb Sr., 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at his home. Born March 26, 1926, in Greenville County, SC, he was a son of the late William Fred and Gertrude Nina Sims Babb and husband of the late Hazel Pike Babb.
A World War II U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Babb served in the European theater beginning at the age of 17. He retired from Glyn C. Babb Paint Contracting in 1996 and was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Warriors Sunday School Class. He was a Shriner (jester) and member of Inman Masonic Lodge #201, the Mauldin Shrine Club, and the American Legion. He was also an avid golfer who loved to play with his buddies at The Creek. Glyn was very dedicated to his family and we will miss him dearly.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Lynn Crowe of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughter, Ashley Ghowanlu of Spartanburg, SC; grandson, Julian Crowe (Danielle) of Inman, SC; great-grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, and Grayson Crowe, Ethan Ghowanlu, and Sammy Bennett; great-great-grandson, Nixon Crowe; stepdaughter, Dianne Norton (A. J.); stepsons, Gary Ridings (Susan) and Tex Ridings; sisters, Shirley B. Nodine and Ruth B. Evington, both of Inman, SC, Kathleen B. Collins of Wilmington, NC, and Earline Morris (Dale) of Nashville, TN; brothers, Furman (Jan), Paul (Sylvia), and Johnny (Jane) Babb, all of Inman, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sons, David Allen Babb and Glyn Curtis Babb Jr.; three brothers, Alvin O. Babb, Edward Lee Babb, and George E. Babb; and two sisters, Frances B. Paulos and Mildred B. Mawhirter.
Visitation will be 1:00-2:30 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service, with military rites, will follow at 3:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Steven R. Owensby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, PO Drawer 2909, Spartanburg, SC 29304 online at www.salvationarmyusa.org; or The Charles Lea Center Foundation, 195 Burdette Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
The family is at the home of his grandson, Julian Crowe.
