Roger was the third child born to Comelis and Artie Alexander Coleman on Tuesday, January 28, 1950 in Kilgore, Texas. He departed this life on Monday, January 23, 2017 at his residence in Houston, Texas.
Early in life he united with Kilgore Baptist Church and served until his relocation to Houston. He later became a member and ultimately completed his Christian journey at Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church in Houston where he served in the Food Pantry and Singles Ministries.
He played football and ran track while at C. B. Dansby High School where he graduated as a member of the Class of 1968. He later graduated from Kilgore College.
While attending college he was employed at Kilgore Ceramics for a brief period. Upon graduation, he gained employment and completed his work career with 45 years of service at Gulf/Chevron Oil Corporation. He had been retired for 19 months at the time of his demise.
He was known for his impeccable sense of style in his dress attire. He excelled in and enjoyed bowling as a favorite pastime. Since his personality lent to him never meeting a stranger he was friendly and well received to all that he encountered.
He leaves to cherish his memory to his daughter, Stephanie Newton and her husband, Elder Emanuel, II of Dallas, TX; sons, Brian Taylor and his wife Bridget of Longview, TX; Randy Sibley of Denver, CO; and Roger Ray Coleman, Jr. of Houston, TX; step-son, Armand Curry and his wife Mechelle of Houston, TX; four brothers, Clarence Coleman and his wife, Rose of Houston, TX; Frank Coleman and his wife Wilma of Longview, TX; James Coleman of Kilgore, TX; and Calvin Coleman and his wife, Regina of Longview, TX; Ladell Coleman and Anthony Coleman both of Kilgore, TX; seven grandchildren, Emanuel Newton, III of Kansas City, MO; Kourtnie Newton of Dallas, TX; Jae’da Sibley of Baltimore, MD; Ashlae Curry of Houston, TX; Bryanna Taylor, KeAndre Mauldin and Kayla Stafford all of Longview, TX; one aunt, Frankie Pentecost of Oklahoma City, OK; best friend, Rev. Carlos N. Whitaker of Greenville, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
His parents, brother, Larry Coleman, sister, Carolyn Coleman and niece Kametria Curry all preceded him in death.
