MRS. SOPHIA DAVEY SUMMONED BY DEATH
Death came yesterday to Mrs. Sophia Davey, Montana resident for more than a half century and widow of former Mayor W. H. Davey, in her home, 518 West Park Street, after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Davey was born on a ship in midocean while her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kogler of Borden Monheim, Germany, were coming to the United States to make their home.
She came to Montana when a girl with her parents. She met Mr. Davey, a restaurateur here, soon after her arrival. They were married in Butte on Nov. 13, 1893. Mr. Davey served as mayor of Butte from 1901 to 1903 and then elected to office carried every ward in the city, an unprecedented event in the Mining city’s elections up to that time. Mr. Davey died Jan. 21, 1936.
Mrs. Davey was a devout member of St. Patrick church. She had many friends among the old-time residents of the city and was prominent here socially and in church work around the turn of the century.
She is survived by a brother, Peter Kogler, of Butte, who was at her bedside when the end came. There are also a number of relatives in New York.
The body was removed to the White funeral home. Funeral arranged are pending word from relatives.
