Mrs. Kathleen Cox Stephens, 81, passed away on February 17, 2017 at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Whiteville, NC. She was born on July 25, 1935 in Tabor City, NC to William Jasper Cox and Sarah Viola Boswell Cox of the Sandy Plains community.

Mrs. Stephens grew up in the Sandy Plains community near Tabor City, NC and graduated from Tabor City High School. She also attended business school in Wilmington, NC. She worked for many years in the banking industry with Customer Services in northern Virginia while her husband Leonard was stationed with the US Army at the White House in Washington, DC.

Prior to entering Liberty Commons Nursing Home, Mrs. Stephens was an active member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Whiteville, NC. She was also a volunteer Librarian when she lived in Loris, SC and was active in a number of other civic organizations.

Mrs. Stephens is survived by her sons Mark Kelly Stephens of Loris SC and Jeffrey Clay Stephens of Myrtle Beach SC, two granddaughters Nicole Stephens of Charlotte, NC and Brittany Stephens of Loris, SC. Four nieces; Mary Cox Hardee of West End, NC, Hazel Cox Williams of Nakina, Dorothy Diana Cox of the Bethel Community, Lola Cox Chenes of Ft Lauderdale, FL and her nephew William J. Cox of Pompano Beach, FL.

Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her loving parents William Jasper Cox and Sarah Viola Boswell Cox as well as her brothers Dewey Hazel Cox and Liston William Cox.

A memorial service will be held at the Inman Ward Funeral Home in Tabor City at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.
