Joseph "Rocky" Holland, Mahanoy City, passed away Friday evening at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born in Mahanoy City, July 31, 1930, he was a son of the late Patrick and Josephine Staub Holland, formerly of Mahanoy City.
He attended St. Canicus school for 10 years and then graduated from Mahanoy City High School in 1948.
Served in the Navy in the Korean conflict.
He was formerly employed at Kaier's Brewery and Reading Anthracite Co.
He was a member of St. Teresa Calcutta Roman Catholic Church, a life member of the Humane Fire Company and American Legion, all of Mahanoy City.
A resident of Mahanoy City all his life, he had a great interest in the community. He was a former Mahanoy City Borough Council member and Mahanoy City Sewer Authority and was a charter member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
He enjoyed going to the local high school games and was one of the founders of the midget football program. He was an assistant basketball coach and head baseball coach at Immaculate Heart High School.
He loved all sports but was most passionate about his favorite - the Notre Dame football team - and made many trips to see and cheer on his "Fighting Irish."
He was proceeded in death by a brother, Patrick Holland; sisters, Mary DeCrease, Rosemary Alberici, Bridgetta Malone and Isabel Hillibush.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Hryshko Holland; children, Joseph Holland and his wife, Becky, Maureen, wife of Rick Reed, and Peggy, wife of Tom Meikrantz; grandchildren, Maggie Harmon (Warren), Natalie Holland, Fiona Reed, Colleen Reed, Caylin Meikrantz and Corey Meikrantz; great-grandchildren, Madeline Harmon and Bentley Holland; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by James P. Haughney Funeral Home, Mahanoy City.
