Reggie was the son of Reverend Hunter Lee Mitchell and Christine Dixon Mitchell. He was the fifth of seven children. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a full Morehead scholarship, which is only awarded to the brightest students. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree and earned his Master of Business Administration degree at UNC as a Consortium of Graduate Minority Education (COGME) Fellow. n 1987 he was ordained as Deacon and appointed Pastor of Bethel AME Church in Lowell, MA. In June 2002, he became Pastor of Allen AME Church in Providence, Rhode Island.
