David A. Yorko, age 73, a lifelong resident of Rossford passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Heartland of Waterville. David graduated from Sts. Cyril and Methodius School and attended Rossford High School. In his early teens Dave’s love for music prompted him to take guitar lessons from Elmer Sanders at Durdel’s Music in Toledo, Ohio. He then became well known as the lead guitar player for the nationally and internationally acclaimed rock music group, Johnny and the Hurricanes, touring extensively throughout the United States and abroad. He also appeared several times on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. After his travels Dave played with many local bands, including the BG Ramblers, Kay Yeager and the Dominoes, Dave and the Orbits, The Fascinators and the Downtowners at the famous Peppermint Lounge in Toledo. After his musical career he went to work at Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company in Rossford for 30 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and taking care of his rental property in downtown Rossford that he owned for 22 years. He was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Red Wings.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine “Jo” (Robert) Johnson; aunts, Francis Bucko, Mary (Fritz) Hloznik and Vivian Bucko, Sisters of St. Francis.
Surviving is his aunt Penny (Russell) of Camp Hill, PA; a host of friends including, Mark Mazur and Mary Schrek. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may visit at the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford, 830 Lime City Rd. on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 2 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ft. Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. Dave wanted to give a special thank you to Jesus for a good life, a wonderful family and many great friends and neighbors. A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Heartland of Waterville especially his nurse Victoria.
