Jay Dee Barnes peacefully passed from this world, at his home in Baird, TX, on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.
He was born in Meadows, TX on March 31, 1922. He was the son of the late Jerome Cerox Barnes and Lora Bernice (Tollett) Barnes. He had one sister, the late Elizabeth Dupus and a half-brother, the late Calvin Barnes of Oklahoma.

Jay Dee married Laverne Stickland and they had three children: Jimmy, Virginia and Calvin (Cotton). Jay Dee was a self-educated man. He worked for a total of 40 years, beginning with the T&P Railroad and retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a locomotive engineer.

Jay Dee loved studying the bible. He was always eager to share a bible verse or lesson.

He is survived by his wife: Carol. They would have celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2017. He is also survived by his daughter: Virginia Derby of Comfort, TX; daughter-in-law: Louanna Barnes of Carroll, TX; step-daughter: Paula Barnes and husband Willie of Baird; step-son: Brian Fears of Baird; 8 grandchildren; 1 step-grandson; 17 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
