LLOYD 'BUD' JENKINS
BOARDMAN – There will be a memorial service Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at 11 a.m at the Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., in Boardman, for Lloyd R. Jenkins, known as “Bud,” 89, who died Thursday evening, Jan. 8, 2015, at Hospice House with his family by his side.

Bud was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Youngstown, the son of the late Robert L. and Rose (Huber) Jenkins.

He graduated from South High School in 1944, and enlisted into the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. After his service time, Bud returned to the Youngstown area.

He was the owner of Ryan’s Carpet, where he and his wife, Jean, worked together. Bud retired in 1996, after 44 years in the carpet industry.

Bud was an active and proud member of the Lions Club and was a member of Boardman Lions Club for more than 45 years. He was a two-time president for the Boardman Lions Club, where he served every club position, was chairman of the Rose Day fundraiser and was the newsletter editor. He served as Zone 5 Chairman, Past District Governor of District 13 D, Past Council Chairman for Ohio, Past Convention Chairman, served on the Governor’s Advisory Committee of District 13 D, served on Melvin Jones Eye Care Foundation, and was a two-time Melvin Jones Fellows Award recipient. He received the Lion of the Year for District 13 D, and was intern Secretary for the State of Ohio.

Bud is survived by his two daughters, Peggy L. Jenkins of Bedford and Bonnie L. (Dennis) Koch of Boardman; four nieces; two nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, the former Jean L. Morris, whom he married Aug. 28, 1949, and who died May 24, 2013; infant son, Robert Jenkins; a sister, Dorothy Webber and husband Glenn; and brother-in-law William and wife Barbara Morris.

Family and friends may call on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Thompson-Filicky Funeral Home, Boardman.

The Lions Club will hold a memorial service for Bud at 5 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Boardman Lions Club Coats for Kids Program, 50 Buena Vista Ave., Boardman, OH 44512; or to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514, in memory of Bud.
