Kimberly was a long-time resident of Deer Park, Texas. She graduated from Deer Park High School, where she received a standing ovation at her graduation. She received numerous awards, ribbons, and certificates as an athlete with the Special Olympics and various organizations in the Pasadena, Houston, Sacramento, and Hawaii areas. Her favorite events were the electric wheelchair races and bowling.
Kim loved to talk on the phone and helping others. She found work at the STARR King Exceptional School (Sacramento, California) and The Center for the Retarded (Pasadena, Texas) as a receptionist and in their workshops doing contract work for various companies.
Kim’s hobbies included talking on the phone, playing video games, traveling, making latch hook rugs, ceramics, collecting movies and music, and watching TV. She enjoyed Soap Operas the most.
Kim had a heart for all of those she met, but a big piece of her heart belonged to the love of her life, her fiancé, Lynn Nelson. Lynn and Kim were together for 35 years, until his death in 2012. They met at work and fell in love right away. They were involved in many activities together, including the Special Olympics and Bowling Teams. They loved going out with their friends, attending dances and parties.
Kim is preceded in death by her father, Warren “Jim” Kirk and her grandparents. She is survived by her mother, Jean Kirk, her sister, Deborah McCormack, her Aunt, Pamela Ingram. Her niece, nephews and their families; Susan and David Rogers, Kirk and Kimberly Mayberry, and Aric and Stella Vasek. Her Great-Nieces and Nephew, Kaitlyn Wright, David Wright, and Natalie Rogers. Her Great-Great-Nieces Lilly and Violet Dino. Her numerous cousins, aunts and friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 1, 2016, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, with the funeral service Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 11:00am, both held at Niday-Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
