Taken from his obituary-Presley A. Martin was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, February 28, 1843 and died April 24, 1922. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy on April 19th, from which he never regained consciousness. With his family, he moved to Lacon, Illinois, when just a boy, residing there one year, at the end of which the family moved to a farm near Dana, which was his home until manhood. On January 6, 1870, he was married to Eleanor Virginia Bane, to which union three daughters and three sons were born. Mr. Martin was a resident of Minonk for the last forty years of his life, with the exception of the last two years, residing in his home on the west side of the city. For many years he was engaged in the hardware business, first with his brother, the late Euclid Martin, and later with E. J. Troxel under the firm name of Martin and Troxel. He retired from active business life some years ago. About two years ago he went to Florida to make his home with his daughter Mrs. O. M. Davidson, of Fort Myers.

Mr. Martin united with the First Presbyterian Church of Minonk on September 2, 1878. On May 18, 1905, he was elected as a ruling elder in the church, which office he continued until his death. He was active in church work from his boyhood and was faithful to his duties.
