Chinese Premier. Also known as Zhou Enlai. He served as the first Premier of the People's Republic of China from October 1, 1949 until his death on January 8, 1976. Born in the Huaian, Jiangsu Province, in China, Chou was a prominent member of the Communist Party of China, and the first Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China from 1949 to 1958. He was also a staunch supporter of Mao Tse-Tung (or Mao Zedong), and a member of the infamous Gang of Four. In 1974, Chou was diagnosed with bladder cancer and died two years later, in 1976. He was followed in death eight months later by Mao. He was cremated and his ashes scattered according to his wishes.
