.Catherine Hammock Shelton, age 77 of Altavista died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born November 20, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas Hammock and Myrtle Barber Hammock. She was predeceased by three brothers, W.L. Hammock, Raleigh Hammock, and Ray Hammock; and one sister, Shirley Ann Hammock. Mrs. Shelton was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Altavista, a former Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She was retired from GE Ericsson; and enjoyed mission work, and working with children. She is survived by her husband, Clyde W. Shelton of the residence; one son, Ronnie W. Shelton and his wife, Ann Greene Shelton of Richmond; two grandsons, John W. Shelton, and Frank D. Shelton; three brothers, Roger Lee Hammock of Greensboro, Grady Hammock of Long Island, and James Hammock of Gretna; and three sisters, Carlene Collins of Danville, Mary Moore of Gretna, and Brenda Waters of Pittsville. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Church of God of Prophecy, Altavista by Rev. Steve Pittman and Rev. Wayne Murphy. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence. The family suggests memorials be made to the World Foreign Missions Offering of the Church of God of Prophecy, P.O. Box 278 Altavista, VA 24517.
