Alabama - Clyde Walker, 94, of Opelika Alabama passed away Thursday (February 16, 2017) at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 15, 1922 in Hickox, GA to the late Hamp and Laura Crews Walker. He is also preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 70 years Annie Hickox Walker; his son, Clyde Eustis; grandson, Todd; his brothers, James, Lester, Elton and Morris; and his sisters Janie, Lillar and Hazel.

When he was 17 years old he married his first and only love, Annie Hickox and they moved to Jacksonville, FL.

He worked in transportation business before serving in the US Army during WW II where he was stationed in the Philippines Islands.

After returning to Jacksonville, he was hired as a field agent by Independent Life & Accident Insurance Company. In 1950 he was transferred to the Auburn/Opelika area and promoted to District Manager.

He worked in that capacity until he retired in 1983 after 37 years with the company.

He received multiple sales and other awards while serving as District Manager at Independent Life.

Clyde became a member of the First Baptist Church in Opelika in 1953 and remained a member until his death. He was also a member of Lions Club. He was an avid gardener who was known to be able to "root a broom handle".

He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with family, friends and coworkers.

He especially enjoyed helping his wife after work and on weekends with at Good Earth Ceramics they owned for 24 years.

He is survived by his sisters Louise Johns and Lovie Crews;2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Edgar LaVelle Walker, and Dr. Thomas Lamar Walker (Pat); 3 daughters and a son-in-law, Tricia Dudley, Anna Rhoden and Gina Janney (Wayne); 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Walker, Kip Walker, Kris Walker (Tori), Kurt Walker (Heather), Richard Dudley (Christine), Cassie Graham, Dr. Jeremy Walker (Tara),

Jenna Walker, Jennifer Williams (Chad), and Amy Harris (Mike);12 great-grandchildren; and also several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Saturday evening (February 18, 2017) from 6pm-8pm at Frye Funeral Home, 136 Satilla Ave. Nahunta GA 31553.

A funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon (February 19, 2017) at 2pm at Hickox Baptist Church with Dr. W. Derrell Rentz and Rev. Jamie Giddens officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Dudley, Kris Walker, Kurt Walker, Corbett Walker, Jeff Walker, and Billy Crews. Honorary pallbearer will be Kip Walker.

Memorials may be made to the New Hope Cemetery, or Compassus Hospice of East Alabama.
