Mary Anna Louise Swenson came into this world on May 28, 1924, one of six children of August and Dorothea (Seims) Splittgerber of Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from District 93 school in 1937. After school Mary worked for Dunwoody Institute and Pay-Par Production in Minneapolis. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Franklin Swenson. She moved back to the Alexandria area and worked for F.W. Woolworth Company until retirement in 1987.
Mary loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and liked spending time with family. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Mary was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and lead the Junior Unit for many years. She was also a member of the Eagles and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church. Mary was a founding contributor to the Alexandria Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and could always be talked into a trip to the casino or to play bingo. Mary was a friend to all, people and animals alike. She was a sassy, spunky lady that loved life; her spirit will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
