She was born in Stokes County on July 29, 1952, to the late Frank and Lottie Ethel Joyce Martin and was a 1970 graduate of North Stokes High School. Judy farmed with her husband, was custodian for her church, and throughout the years provided childcare for many children. She was devoted to the Lord, dedicated to her family and community of friends. She had a card ministry that extended to anyone who needed a word of encouragement. Judy loved her annual beach trips with her family, loved yard work, flower gardening, crafts, crossword puzzles, and being on the go. She lived her life to the fullest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Gail Shelton (2004); brothers, Odell and Russell Martin; sisters, Mozelle Amos and Barbara Williams, brother-in-law, Daniel Williams.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 46 years, Melvin Gary Shelton; beloved children, Chad Michael Shelton (Crystal) and Melanie Murphy (Kevin); grandchildren, Samuel Logan Murphy, Lola Grace and Waylon Cade Shelton. She is also survived by brothers, Harvey and Glenn Martin; brother-in-law, Sam Amos; sisters, Mattie Ruth Neal (Alan), Shelby Williams, Marie Knight (Mike), Pat Carter, Dot Carter (Bobby); sister-in-law, Ann Martin; several special nieces and nephews; and a special friend who was like a sister, Shirley Willard Clifton.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to everyone for all acts of kindness shown to Judy throughout her illness since April, 2016.
