James Russell "Russ" David, 84, of Lake Charles entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 12, 2017 in his residence.

Mr. David was born on April 8, 1932 in Youngsville, LA.

He enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 16. He was sent to Germany and served in the Berlin Airlift. After two years he was transferred to Ashiya, Japan where he flew missions in and out of Korea. He returned to the States in 1952 and received an honorable discharge.

In 1953 he began his 41 year career at Southern Pacific Railroad as a Switchman. He coached South Lake Charles Little League for 25 years. Mr. and Mrs. David were one of the pioneer families at Our Lady Queen of Heaven church. They hosted CODOFIL French teachers from Canada, Belgium, and France for 20 years.

His hobbies included fishing, traveling over the United States and Europe, and attending McNeese football and basketball games.

He and the family wish to thank Sybil Richard, John and Ann Miller, Kendall and Lori Groves, Bobby Broussard, Victoria Treadway, Vicki Broussard, Joe Rideau, Lisa Franklin, Tresa Leger, the Heart of Hospice nurses and caregivers, Dr. Josh Whatley, and Dr. Carl Nabors.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Louisa Morvant David; father, Ophie David; wife of 62 years, Mary Lurline Hebert David; son, Michael Broussard; and grandson, Shawn Broussard.

His funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be officiated by Deacon George Carr. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a scripture service being held at 6:00 PM.

Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
