Benny was born in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Lonnie and Sophie Hawkins.
He worked in the construction industry as a carpenter, and retired from Carpenters Local 626 in 1993. Benny was a member of the VFW, as well as the West End Rod and Gun Club of Wilmington. He also loved attending Delaware Park, and shopping in local stores.
Benny is survived by his son, Paul (Allison) Hawkins; brother, Joseph Hawkins; and sister, Theresa Hawkins Bartkowski; grandchildren, Andria and Patricia Hawkins; and two great-grandchildren, Donte and Deziree.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805, on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 am.
