Known locally as "Tootsie," she was an icon in the Pleasant Grove community as having operated Outlaw's Grill (sometimes referred to as simply "Tootsie's") from February 1959 until her retirement December 31, 1999, and which is still in operation today under the leadership of her family.
Mrs. Hudson was a loyal member of Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in numerous other capacities. Her church family lovingly celebrated her Christian example in a special called service last fall.
Funeral services to remember her good and Godly life will be held Thursday night, February 16, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Mark S. Hobbs, with visitation following. Graveside committal services will be Friday, February 17, at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill Free Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, or memorial gifts may be made to Snow Hill Church, c/o Jenean P. Kennedy, 1571 Red Hill Rd., Mount Olive, NC 28365.
Surviving family members include two daughters, Donna Hudson Morris and husband, Johnny, and Paula Hudson King, all of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Amy Medlin, Matthew Hudson, LaDonna Coats, Robbie Price, Nicole Forbes, Misty Hardy, Warren King, and Nikki Eason; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Linwood M. "Skint" Outlaw and wife, Joyce, of Mount Olive; four sisters, Doris O. Gadberry of Richmond, Va., Lila Mae O. Price of Albertson, Joyce Evelyn O. Hinson and husband, Levy, and Jo Ann O. Pate and husband, Ricky, all of Mount Olive; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Oscar Frederick "Freddy" Hudson, Jr.; her parents, Alonza "Lonnie" and Alice Outlaw; a son-in-law, Gary King; three sisters, Virginia O. McNaughton, Reba Jean O. Jones, and Mary Alice "Dick" O. Edwards; and a newborn grandchild.
