Robert Cronan was born in Georgia, a son of James Hamilton Cronan and Dura Idena Latham. He had siblings James Edward, Lee Hamilton 1923–1971, Robert ~1927-?, William H. 1928–1928, Jasper Newton "Ned", Thomas Lamar 1930–2005, Lewis "Monroe", Mary R. and David Barton "DB".

His family were farmers in Downs and Honey Creek, Newton, Georgia.

Robert married Karlene Mayfield and they had a son Edward.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of both World War II and Korea, serving from August 20, 1948 to January 23, 1963.

His family moved to Phoenix in 1963 from Covington, Georgia.

He died from complications from emphysema at the VA hospital in Phoenix.

He was survived by his wife, Karlene; son, Edward, of Phoenix; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cronan of Loganvilie, Ga.; six brothers and two sisters, out of state.
