William Jasper (Jack) Gorden was born Jan. 11, 1925 in Hamilton and passed from this life July 2, 2016 at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center at the age of 91.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Jack was born to William Jasper Gorden Sr. and Frankie Cawthon Gorden. He was the middle child of three children. He attended school at Sidney and later attended Daniel Baker College for a year. During WWII, Jack served in the Merchant Marines from 1943-46, he sailed all over the world, and after the war was over he was in the U.S. Army from 1947-49 in Japan. When he was discharged from the Army he came to Brownwood to visit relatives and met and married the love of his life Betty Jeane Ratliff Gorden on Aug. 12, 1950. They celebrated 65 years together and were one month short of 66.
Jack was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church.
Jack was employed by Texas Power and Light Company (now Energy Futures Partners – Luminet) for 34 years. His last assignment was Superintendent of the DeCardova Plant in Granbury. After they both retired they enjoyed traveling in their RV.
Jack was a member and Past Master of the Brownwood Masonic Lodge No. 279 and member of the Waco Scottish Rite Bodies and coroneted a 33-degree Inspector General honorary.
Jack is survived by his wife, Betty Jeane Ratliff Gorden of Brownwood; a daughter, Karen Lynn Gorden of San Angelo; a granddaughter, Samantha Jo Gorden of San Angelo; great-granddaughter, Serenity Addyson Harrell of San Angelo; and special nephew, Larry Gorden and wife Jo of Alpine; several other nephews; a niece; and a special friend and caregiver, Reinita Brown and family.
