Betty Jeane Ratliff Gorden went to be with her Lord and the love of her life William Jasper (Jack) Gorden, Feb. 11, 2017 at Brownwood Nursing and Rehab.
Betty was born Sept. 22, 1929 in Indian Creek to Homer and Winnie Martin Ratliff. The Martin family has been in Brown County since 1879 and the Ratliff family since 1874. The two families were two of the early pioneer families of Brown County.
Betty graduated from Brownwood High School, worked at Renfroe Drug Store #1 on Center Avenue where she sold cosmetics and perfume. Betty met Jack Gorden at the Drug Store, where he fell in love with that good smelling girl. So he stayed in Brownwood and they married Aug. 22, 1950.
They were one month short of 66 wonderful years together when Jack passed July 2, 2016. They are together again.
Betty worked for Texas Power & Light for 40 years, after retiring she and Jack traveled in their motor home and enjoyed their time together visiting family and friends. She also started painting one of her true passions, she was a member of the Brownwood Art Club for many years.
Betty was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Karen Lynn Gorden of San Angelo; a granddaughter, Samantha Jo Gorden of San Angelo; great-granddaughter, Serenity Addyson Harrell of San Angelo; and special nephew, Larry Gorden and wife Jo of Alpine; several other nephews; a nieces; cousins; and a special friend and caregiver, Reinita Brown and family.
