Jereldean (Jere) Lancaster Slater: November 4, 1920 - September 2012
Jereldean (Jere) Lancaster Slater passed away peacefully in her hometown of Guymon, Oklahoma on September 12, 2012. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Slater, who passed away in Coronado on December 28, 2008, just five weeks after moving to Coronado from Albuquerque, N.M., where they had lived fro 18 years. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Fowler and husband Jim, of Guymon, Okla., daughter Courtney Brown and husband Jerry of Coronado and son Lan Slater and wife Charlotte of Angel Fire, N.M. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two very special nieces and their families.
Jere was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Coronado for more than two years before moving back to Oklahoma, where she had been actively involved in the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church her whole life. She was a member of the Joy Circle, president of the United Methodist Women and teacher coordinator of Sunday school, bible study and the children’s Christmas programs. She and Ed were active in Lay Witness Missions for many years in the U.S., and abroad and also in the ministry of Loaves and Fishes and the Albuquerque Store House, a center for helping the homeless. They had a rich, full life revolving around their love for another, their love for their family, their friends and their strong faith.
A memorial service will be held noon Sunday, November 4 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Coronado. The family also plans a memorial service to be held at a later date in Guymon, Okla.

Jereldean Lancaster Slater, age 91, passed away peacefully at Dunaway Manor on September 21st.

Jere was born November 4, 1920 in Guymon to Jerry and Chloe Lancaster. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert of Franklin, TN.

Jere attended Guymon Public Schools for 12 years and then attended Centenary Collage for one semester in Shreveport. LA before attending PAMC in Goodwell, OK for the next 3-½ years.

Jere met the love of her life in 1953 and married Edward Slater. She birthed three children, Beverly Slater Fowler, Suzy Slater Brown and Lan Edward Slater.

Jere was very active in Victory Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of Joy Circle, president of United Methodist Women, teacher coordinator of Sunday School and Bible Study for many years. She and Ed were active in Lay Witness Missions for many years in the U.S. and abroad. She was a member and past president of Guymon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Jere was also a teacher’s aid and substitute teacher in the Guymon Public Schools. She and Ed were also very active in the ministry of Loaves & Fishes. Her other activities included quilting, knitting, reading, traveling and especially her family.

In 1990, she and Ed moved to Albuquerque NM. They were both very actively involved with St. Stephens United Methodist Church and the Albuquerque Store House, which is a center for helping the homeless. After eighteen years in Albuquerque they decided to move to Coronado, CA to be closer to family. However, within weeks of the move, Ed passed away December 28, 2008. Jere continued to reside with her daughter until she decided she wanted to move back home to Guymon, January 2011.

Jere is survived by her daughters, Beverly Fowler & husband Jim of Guymon; Suzy Brown & husband Jerry of Coronado, CA; and a son, Lan & wife Charlotte of Angel Fire, NM. Survivors also include ten grandchildren... Jef Fowler & wife Starrla of Driftwood, TX; Scott Fowler & wife Julie of Dallas, TX; Matthew Fowler of Van Nuys, CA; Lisa Ward Rice (Fowler) & husband Rae of Edmond, OK; Jerry Ward (Fowler) & wife Renee’ of Oklahoma City, OK; Mike Ward (Fowler) & wife Christina of Littleton, CO; Derek Brown & wife Betsy of Manhattan Beach, CA; Amy Brown Dull & husband Tom of Coronado, CA; Jesse Brown & wife Courtney of Los Angeles, CA; Shawn Slater & wife Tracy of Alexandria, VA; plus twenty-one great grandchildren and one on the way, and another great-great grandchild on the way. Also, very special nieces, Beth Beckelman of Eagleville, TN; Dianne Roberts & husband Mickey of Guymon; their children, Rick Roberts of Guymon; Randi Long & husband Mark of Pampa, TX and children, Laci Jones & husband Clay of Lubbock, TX, and Landon Long of Abilene, TX.

Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday afternoon, January 19th, 2:00 P.M. at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 523 North Roosevelt, Guymon with Jim Jamieson, pastor of Panhandle Bible Center, officiating. Cremation services are under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Guymon.
