Nelson Ira Greene, 68, passed away on February 14, 2017, at his home after a long valiant battle with cancer. He was born on May 26, 1948 in Lowndes County to Houston Greene and Cynthia Fender.

In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his daughter, Angie Greene and a very special brother-in-law, Terrance O'Melia.

Nelson is survived by his loving wife: Donna Greene of Nashville. Additionally, he is lovingly remembered by his daughters: Debra E. Woods (Josh Carlton), Ginger Sheldon-Garner and Brooke Rudeseal (Brad); sisters: Linda Chapman (Jamie), Jane O'Melia and brother: Greg Greene (Elaine Garner). Nelson had 7 wonderful grandchildren: Ryann, Casey, Ryder and Stone Sheldon, Braxton and Branson Rudeseal, in addition to soon be born baby B. He is also survived by his mother-in-law: Dorothy Kersey; and a very loving extended Florida family. Last but certainly not least, his four legged fur buddy Ruger Greene-Woods.

Nelson enjoyed all things outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved shooting and customizing a variety of firearms in his spare time. Nelson possessed a wonderful sense of humor and always tried to make those around him laugh with his quick wit. He was a jack of all trades who could fix anything and had a tool for everything.

A graveside funeral service was held Monday February 20, 2017 at 11 AM in the Westview Cemetery with Pastor Becky King officiating.

The family of Nelson Ira Greene wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of South Georgia and especially the nurses who comforted him in his final days: Mrs. Paula, Mrs. Regina and Mrs. Kay. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mandy Lucas and her office staff for all the kindness and compassion they showed Mr. Greene during his many visits. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
