Milton Edward Chamberlin, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home, in Springfield, MO on February 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward Chamberlin and Oma Alberta (Williams) Chamberlin; a brother, Robert Joseph Chamberlin; and a grandson, Stephen Paul Chamberlin.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on August 13, 1932, his parents soon returned to Sedalia, MO, while Milton was still an infant. Milt enjoyed golfing, traveling, watching a wide variety of sports, and participating in several fraternal and civic organizations.

After graduating Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, MO, Milton studied economics at Drury College, Springfield. While a student, he met Jimmie Sue McKenzie, whom he eventually married on May 27, 1955, at University Heights Baptist Church of Springfield.

He graduated cum laude from Drury with a Bachelor of Arts degree (1954) and MBA (1973). Milton joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and continued to support his alma mater financially and academically as an instructor in the Drury Night School Business Department.

A member of the Missouri State Board of Accountancy and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Milt maintained a private CPA practice while working over two decades as the comptroller of Syntex Agribusiness in Springfield.

In addition to his career as a CPA, Milton actively served his community through the local Downtown Kiwanis chapter, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, to name only a few. Milton retired from the Army National Guard as a Captain after 20+ years of service.

A longtime member of University Heights Baptist Church, Milton was ordained as a deacon (1987) and faithfully served his church in that capacity and as a member of the church’s Board of Finance.

Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Jimmie Sue (McKenzie) Chamberlin; four children: Mark Edward Chamberlin of Springfield, MO, Rebecca Sue Chamberlin Nelson (Ken) of Fort Mill, SC, Jonathan Michael Chamberlin (Ginny) of Springfield, MO, Thomas McKenzie Chamberlin (Aimee) of Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren: Andrew Scott Chamberlin (Jesslyn) of Republic, MO, Erin Michelle Nelson Miller (Andrew) of Naples, Italy, Laura Anne Nelson of Charlotte, NC, Michael William Chamberlin of Springfield, MO, Emily Dell Chamberlin of Maryland Heights, MO, Tyler James Chamberlin and Alexander Milton Chamberlin both of Overland Park, KS; three great grandchildren: Liam Edward Chamberlin and Mihra Belle Chamberlin both of Republic, MO and Susan McKenzie Miller of Naples, Italy; three sisters: Alberta Young (Ray) of Sedalia, MO, Virginia Davis of Raymore, MO and Dorothy Smith (Harold Lee) of Centralia, MO; one Sister-in-Law Sharon Harman of Springfield, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The celebration of his life will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 18 at the University Heights Baptist Church, 1010 S. National, Springfield with burial in the White Chapel Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 A.M. until service time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Milton Chamberlin Endowed Scholarship at Drury University. Milton lived his life with love, truth and integrity and will be greatly missed.
