Mary Josephine Wagner, 94, a resident of the Banks community passed away on Friday evening, February 10, 2017 at her home.

Mary was born at home on July 29, 1922 in Rigby, ID. She was one of four children born to Wayne and Dora (Henrich) Ker. The family moved in 1936 to Ontario, OR where she graduated from Ontario High School with the Class of 1937 at the age of fifteen. Mary studied bookkeeping for 1 year then entered Nurses training at St. Elizabeth in Baker City Oregon graduating in 1942. She began working at Holy Rosary Hospital in Ontario in 1942.

She met her future husband, Adolph Wagner while at the barn dance in Ontario. Following a two year courtship they eloped on October 5, 1944 to Winnemucca, NV, “because they didn’t have any money and neither did anyone else after the war”. Following their marriage they made their home in Ontario until 1947 when they moved to Burns, OR. Where they joined in business with Adolph’s two brothers in the Palace Café which sold sporting goods, operated a bar, card room and soda shop. Many fun times were had by all! In 1959 Adolph and Mary moved to Baker City, OR where they worked together in a beer distributing business with his brother and wife (Fred and Millie). Here they raised their two daughter's Sandra and Pamela. In 1973 they followed Sandy to Everett, WA and lived there until retirement in 1979. They then moved to Cornelius, OR, to help Tim and Pam with farming and children. Adolph passed away in May of 2000 and Mary continued to live on her own until 2006 when she moved to her daughter's farm in Banks.

Mary was a registered nurse all of her life, her specialty was surgery and had worked in Eastern Oregon/ Northern Washington and retiring from Forest Grove Hospital in 1990. Upon retirement Mary continued to volunteer at the gift shop at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro up until 2005 when she "Retired" and settled on the farm in Banks.

She was an avid gardener raising stunning roses and flowers; there was always a bouquet in the house. She liked a neat and tidy home and to host dinners with friends and family. Mary and Adolph both enjoyed dancing, hunting, camping with friends and family. They traveled to visit family and had driven their RV up and down the west coast from Alaska to Mexico. She was a quilter, an Oil painter, and a beloved mother to everyone. Mary enjoyed her grandchildren and would often babysit whenever she had the chance. She read current events, suspense and murder mysteries, and was one of the founding members of the local reading group the "Banks Book Bags". When her family was young Adolph and Mary would spend their summers camping and boating. Mary was also a volunteer for her church St Alexander Catholic in Cornelius.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Adolph, a daughter; Sandra "Sandy" Wagner and three siblings – Ruth, Wayne, & Edward.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Pamela and Tim Dierickx of Banks, six grandchildren; Rick, Kathy, Barbara, Jacquie, Michelle and Thomas and fourteen great grandchildren and 3 great, great, grandchildren.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mary's name to St Alexander’s building fund.
