Bill Mohr, formerly of Milbank, passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the Milbank City Cemetery.

Willis “Bill” Harry Mohr was born on Feb. 24, 1927, to Erich and Lillian (Altenburg) Mohr in Watertown, Wisc. His sister, Betty, joined the family in 1933. Bill farmed with his father and drove a daily route, delivering milk to the local dairy.

Bill married Elaine Hanson of Milbank, S.D., on May 22, 1948, in Watertown, Wisc. They farmed in Wisconsin until Bill was drafted into the Army in 1952. While Bill was in Germany for 18 months, Elaine moved back to Milbank to live with her parents until his return.

Bill and Elaine made their home in Milbank. He was first employed as a repairman for Nord’s Appliance then became the water superintendent for the City of Milbank until his retirement in 1989. He found great pleasure exploring the outdoors of northeastern South Dakota, particularly the fishing waters.

In 1963, Bill and Elaine welcomed their son, Steven, with great delight. Steve became a hunting and fishing companion to his dad.

Bill lived a full and happy life. Family vacations with his sister’s family were thoroughly enjoyed, both for the experiences and the memories. He and Elaine were avid square dancers. Bill was a long-time member and faithful servant of Parkview United Methodist Church.

Making his life even more full and happy were his granddaughters: Claire, born in 1999; Natalie in 2002, and Sarah in 2004. He adored seeing them, hearing about them and was their greatest fan.

Beginning in the 1990s, Bill and Elaine spent winters in Arizona enjoying sunshine, scenery and the company of other like-minded snowbirds. They moved to Pierre in January 2013 to be near their family. Bill and Elaine were blessed with 66 years of marriage.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son Steve, daughter-in-law Leah, and granddaughters Claire, Natalie and Sarah, all of Pierre; nieces Lori (Tim) Schwefel of Oregon, Wisc., and Linda (Rod) Kind of Sussex, Wisc.; and the Jacobs kids: Susan Moen of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; Gary of Moontownship, Penn.; and Linda Dohrer of Wilmington, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elaine in March of 2015, granddaughter Anna in August 1999, sister Betty in January 2017, and brother-in-law Ben Tietz in September 2000.
