Josephine Anne Slivka, 83 of Maryville passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.

Josephine was born on January 24, 1934 in Collinsville Township; a daughter of the late Albert and Josephine (Smola) Mateyka.

Josephine was a homemaker who was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, a graduate of Edwardsville High School and a member of the Republicans Women's Club. In her free time Josephine enjoyed her days of reading, board games and all types of puzzles. But most of all she loved to spend time with her family. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and all the special times they shared together.

She is survived by, and will be missed by, her husband; Alfred Slivka, whom she married on February 23, 1957 at the old St. Cecilia Church in Glen Carbon; her daughters, Barbara Jatcko of Maryville, IL, Kathryn and (Bryan) Alstat of Ruckersville, VA; her grandchildren, Sara Jatcko and (Robert Winkeler) of Chicago, IL, Nathan Jatcko and (Heather Tucker) of Ballwin, MO, Sharon and (Kurt) Zeren of Baltimore, MD, Joseph Alstat of Chilmark, MA; 2 great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosemary Perry of Glen Carbon, IL,; and many other extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Talick and her brother, Wilbur Mateyka.

Friends may call on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. In celebration of Josephine's life, services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Havrilka officiating at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 200 North Lange Street in Maryville. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
