Norma G. Slaughter, 90, of Kearney, died Monday, February 13, 2017 at Mount Carmel Home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Sean Daugherty will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Norma was born on April 6, 1926 in Mayfield, Kentucky to Willard and Jennie (Madden) Bullock. She grew up in Mayfield and graduated from Mayfield High School. After graduating from high school Norma pursued her interest in nursing while working at a medical clinic in Mayfield. In 1944 she moved to Austin, Texas to stay with her sister. While living in Austin she met her future husband, Donald Slaughter, who at the time was in pilot school with the US Army Air Corp.

Norma was united in marriage to Donald S. Slaughter on July 25, 1946 in Mayfield, Kentucky, shortly after his return from World War II. The couple moved to Kearney where they farmed east of town. Norma began working for Kearney State College Student Health Department in 1964. She retired from Kearney State after 25 plus years of employment.

In retirement Mr. and Mrs. Slaughter worked at Mid States Irrigation for many years. They also enjoyed many years of traveling and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and loved shopping.

Norma was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and also East Lawn Kensington Extension Club.

Survivors include her daughter in law, Roberta Slaughter of Kearney; her son, David Slaughter and wife Joy of Kearney; her daughter, Julie Larsen and husband Thomas of Kearney; her grandchildren, Lizabeth Everett and husband Dennis of Sacramento, CA, Jason Slaughter of Lincoln, Alison Beieler and husband Ryan of Seattle, WA, Dan Slaughter and wife Renae of Bennington, NE, Stacy Kolvek and husband John of Omaha, Brad Slaughter and wife Katie of Lincoln, Scott Slaughter of Blair, Kirsten Larsen of Seattle, WA and Alexander Larsen of Arlington, VA; nine great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Metro of Buckingham, VA.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Mark and a great grandson, Baron.
